We welcome students from all backgrounds, and want to be upfront about what we’re welcoming you into. Our beliefs can be summarized simply:
- God is real.
- God has revealed Himself in Jesus.
- The Bible is God’s word.
- God still does stuff.
- God ought to be the most important thing in every person’s life.
These beliefs can be described as orthodox, evangelical, and Pentecostal.
By evangelical, we affirm our belief that the Bible can be fully trusted and that faith is a personal commitment – we are not born a Christian. Here’s a Wikipedia article that explains the differences.
By Pentecostal, we mean that we accept to the active ministry of the Holy Spirit including miracles and that this is an important part of the life of the church today. Chi Alpha is sponsored by the Assemblies of God, the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination. Our pastor is ordained by them and fully subscribes to their statement of faith: the full text is called the Statement of Fundamental Truths.
This is a plain-English version of them:
